Yuan Yi Zhu is the Assistant Professor of International Relations and International Law at Leiden University and a Research Associate at the University of British Columbia’s Centre for Constitutional Law and Legal Studies.
His research focuses on the relationship between international law and the international order and the constitutional law of the United Kingdom and of the Commonwealth. In particular, Yuan is interested in the influence of non-Western powers such as China on legal understandings of sovereignty.
Additionally, Yuan is a legal columnist at The Critic and a regular book reviewer for The Times. Among the other publications he writes for are The Mekong Review, The National Post, The Spectator, The Telegraph, The Times, and Unherd.
Yuan also enjoys tweeting in his spare time, and his witty political commentary has earned him a strong following @yuanyi_z.
